DUBAI, 21st March, 2017 (WAM) -- The Ministry of Health and Prevention has launched a programme for early detection of diabetes, in co-operation with the company, Johnson and Johnson, in 10 primary healthcare centres during 2017.

The programme aims to provide early detection for people who are most susceptible to diabetes and determine pre-diabetic cases, who, through constant checks, can be monitored and protected from developing diabetes.

Dr. Hussain Abdulrahman Al Rand, Assistant Under-Secretary for the Health Centres and Clinics Sector, stressed the importance of the awareness programme of early diagnosis of diabetes, which aims to support and train diabetes patients or those at risk of developing diabetes to elevate preventative health programmes, especially in fighting non-communicable diseases. This comes from the priorities of the Ministry of Health and Preventions strategy, according to international standards, to encourage people to follow healthy lifestyles in the UAE, based on the goals of the ministry to prevent diseases related to diabetes, and as part of its national strategy to fight diabetes to achieve the goals of the national agenda for UAE Vision 2021, in providing international-level healthcare.

Dr. Haifa Fares, Head of the Health Programme Section in the Primary Healthcare Department at the Ministry, stated that the goal of the programme is to examine 10,000 people who are most susceptible to diabetes, and to train 90 individuals from the nursing staff to enable them to utilise the awareness course at the Johnson and Johnson institute to fight diabetes, as well as training 25 doctors in handling diabetes.
