UAE - Road radars and monitoring systems have been activated in Abu Dhabi to catch motorists who violate coronavirus restrictions during the National Sterilisation Programme.

In a statement issued on Friday by the Abu Dhabi Media Office, the Abu Dhabi Police said that it has activated road radar devices and smart systems to monitor movements between 10pm and 6am and issue automatic fines to those violating restrictions.

Police will patrol across the emirate to ensure the public's commitment to the National Sterilisation Programme restrictions.

The force stressed the need for people to stay home during the sterilisation period, except in the case of health emergency or to purchase basic items. They also urged the community to practice social distancing measures and to wear masks and gloves, when stepping out.

According to the Attorney General, those leaving the house between these hours unnecessarily (except for work purposes or to purchase essential items or medical emergency) will be fined Dh2000.
