AMMAN- The UAE Embassy in Jordan has overseen the distribution of 1,000 smart bags, offered by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation, to the UAE-Jordanian camp for Syrian refugees in Mrajeeb Al Fhood, Zarqa Governorate, and the Zaatari refugee camp in Al Mafraq Governorate.
Faisal Ahmed Al Malik, Charge d'Affaires of the UAE Embassy, was accompanied by a delegation from the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation, which visited the camp and distributed the smart bags to students.
The delegation was headed by Saif Al Mansouri, Advisor to the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation, and included Shamsa Al Balooshi, Director of the Partnerships Department at the Foundation, and Dr. Khalid Al Wazni, Strategy Advisor at the Foundation, along with Awatif Abdul Raheem Al Harmoodi, General Manager of Operational Governance at the Emirates Islamic Bank, which sponsored the initiative.
Receiving the delegation at the Mrajeeb Al Fhood camp was Hamad Al Nuaimi, Deputy Director of the Camp, and several members of its relief team.
The delegation listened to an explanation about the educational services offered in the camp, before distributing smart bags to several students.
The delegation then visited the Zaatari camp and was received by Colonel Thoqan Obeidat, Head of the Camp, who gave an explanation about the camps procedures when offering services to Syrian refugees, with the attendance of representatives of international humanitarian organisations working in the camp.
The delegation also visited one of the camps schools and distributed several smart bags, which was followed by a tour around the camp and its facilities.
Al Mansouri said that he was honoured to volunteer in the area of education as everyone was keen to contribute to the Year of Giving. The smart bag and the talking pen were chosen due to their benefits, he added.
Al Mansouri also announced the establishment of a library in the Mrajeeb Al Fhood camp, which will serve people of all ages and will be supplied with books published by the Foundation. The Foundation will organise reading competitions in the camp for refugees, including the "My Story" initiative, to encourage those with the gift of writing stories, he further added while expressing the Foundations readiness to train them, under the supervision of specialist trainers, and print their books.
He expressed his appreciation to the UAE Embassy in Amman for its efforts to assist UAE nationals and institutions visiting Jordan, which contributed to the success of the delegations work while valuing the organisation of the visit and distribution programme by the embassy.
Al Malik praised the exceptional relations between the UAE and Jordan, as well as the co-operation of Jordanian officials, which have contributed to the success of the charity initiatives and projects of Emirati charity institutions and authorities to assist Syrian refugees in Jordan.
He also praised the Foundations initiative while highlighting the UAEs desire for Syrian refugee children to receive a modern and advanced education that will be beneficial to them.
