Dubai, United Arab Emirates: The region’s most prominent landscape conference – the Middle East Smart Landscape Summit will begin in a month’s time, on 18 March at Hotel Roda Al Bustan, Dubai, U.A.E. Organized by Expotrade Global, this two-day summit held under the theme ‘building healthy natural environments and sustainable communities’, will witness over 40 international and regional industry experts come together to share insights on the different aspects pertaining to the growth and development of sustainable landscaping techniques in the region.

International experts Dr. Stanislav Shmelev, Director, Environment Europe and Neil Davidson, Partner, J & L Gibbons will headline the conference. Dr. Stanislav will open the conference with a presentation on the topic titled cities, ecosystems and climate change. He will be followed by Fawaz Alharbi, Senior Head of Master Planning, Jeddah Economic City, presenting on the evolution in the role of landscape architecture.

The two-day agenda features five panel discussions on topics pertaining to innovative urban planning and design to boost sustainable infrastructure for future developments, rise of shared spaces in the urban development, innovating landscape design in order to create livable cities, designing a sustainable society along with its citizens is key for successful smart cities, and retrofitting playgrounds and open spaces.

Each panel will consist of six subject matter experts representing government bodies such as Al Ain Municipality, Abu Dhabi City Municipality, Sharjah Urban Planning Council, and Expo 2020 Dubai and from leading engineering firms, such as Woods Bagot, Jacobs, Arup, Parsons, BuroHappold Consulting Engineers, AECOM, Cracknell, Obermeyer, to name a few.

International speaker Neil Davidson, Partner, J & L Gibbons will open the second day of the conference with a case study presentation on how London is adapting to meet the needs of a growing population and changing environmental conditions. The program agenda covers over 15 topics focusing on rain gardens, increasing a city’s green quotient, re-imagining urban public spaces and retrofitting open spaces, amongst others.

The conference has the support of over 20 leading landscaping companies.
