Sharjah: Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has recorded a growth of 16% in its new memberships during the first quarter of 2019 compared to the first quarter of 2018.

The Chamber said its new memberships have reached 1464 members, while the renewed memberships have risen to 15,338 with a growth rate of 6% compared to the same time of the last year.

The overall number of the new and renewed memberships of the Chamber has amounted to 16,802 during the first quarter of 2019, with a growth rate of 8% compared to the first quarter of 2018.

As for the number of certificates of origin during the first quarter of this year, it has reached 23,298 with a growth rate of 1% compared to the first quarter of 2018. This number reflects the incremental growth of Sharjah trade sector alongside merchants’ flexibility in expanding and diversifying their external trade.

According to the SCCI, these positive statistics reinforce the Emirate of Sharjah’s reputation as a sophisticated and robust business environment to keep up the pace with the dynamic needs of the business sector, notwithstanding slow growth of the world economy and the challenges this economy faces.

His Excellency Mohamed Ahmed Amin, Acting Director-General of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), said: “These remarkable indicators are clear evidence of the economic growth the Emirate of Sharjah witnesses at all levels. Also, they show the investor confidence in Sharjah as an ideal destination for their investments, as well as the Emirate of Sharjah’s attractiveness as a vital regional hub in the global trade flows.”

Amin further added that the number of new and renewed memberships reinforces the SCCI’ leadership role and its outstanding performance in providing high-quality and efficient services in terms of supporting its members and simplifying business practice.

“Attracting new members despite the global challenges and renewing memberships with a growth rate of 6% are clearly reflecting the SCCI’s commitment to enhancing its services and initiatives in pursuance of the wise vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the UAE Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah to consolidate Sharjah’s economic position in all international forums and to strengthen its march towards knowledge and innovation economy,” said Amin.

In turn, Abdulaziz Shattaf, Assistant Director-General for Members Services at the SCCI, shed light on the success of the Chamber in achieving growth in its new and renewed memberships as a result of its investment in modern technology. Further to that, the SCCI has managed to develop its various services and to carry out sophisticated strategies. This helped the clients and members to exploit the Chamber services to perform their business smoothly.

Mr. Shattaf emphasized the SCCI’s keenness on bolstering the smart transformation in a wide range of its services. This will contribute to enhancing the experience of the Chamber’s members and clients and offering diverse choices to boost their competitiveness in the Emirate of Sharjah. He attributed the outstanding performance of the Chamber to the perseverance in services innovation so as to fulfill the clients’ aspirations and needs, in addition to providing them with more advantages to focus on business practice.
