UAE –  The number of passengers travelling through Sharjah Airport grew 15.25% year-on-year to 6.605 million during the first six months of 2019.

The airport received 1.114 million passengers in June, up 17.6% compared to the year-ago period, according to a statement released on Tuesday.

Air traffic movements went up to 41,700 in H1-19 versus 38,800 the year before.

“Sharjah Airport’s positive results in terms of the number of passengers during the first half of this year are a result of the efforts of all the organisations operating at the Airport,” chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority (SAA) Ali Salim Al Midfa said.

Air cargo volume rose to 78,780 tonnes from January to the end of June, 10,350 of which were handled in June.

“Our commitment to providing the best services and facilities to all airlines and air freight companies at Sharjah Airport is reflected in the increasing demand from new airlines that want to take advantage of our facilities for the aviation sector,” SAA’s Faisal bin Saoud Al Qassimi director commented.
