RIYADH — All incoming Saudi currencies from Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority (SAMA) branches abroad, via banks and money transporting companies, have been isolated, as a precautionary measure against COVID-19 infection, Saudi Press Agency quoted SAMA as stating Friday.

This measure is being carried out in coordination with the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Wiqayah), SAMA added.

The banknotes, coins and other means of payment do not differ from the implements we use daily, like door handles, trolleys, purchases from the markets or airports, or other surfaces in public places that can pass on the infection.

SAMA appealed to all to follow the measures meant to ensure hygiene in dealing with all implements and surfaces.

People must protect themselves from infection by the novel coronavirus, by washing their hands frequently with soap and water. When they feel any symptoms of flu, they should contact the competent medical authorities, SPA said.

SAMA stressed that it was following up and coordinating with the pertinent authorities within the Kingdom and abroad so as to take the precautionary and preventive measures usually followed by central banks in dealing with currencies or other means of payment when disease or viruses are spreading.
