Riyadh –  Saudi Public Transport Co. (SAPTCO) on Monday revealed that the Arriyadh Development Authority (ADA) had awarded a France-led consortium a contract for maintenance and operations of the first and second lines of the Riyadh train project.

The 12-year contract is worth SAR 8.531 billion ($2.27 billion), SAPTCO said in a statement, noting that it has a 20% stake in the consortium, while France-based RATP DEV has the remaining 80%.

The first line, or the blue line, extends for 38 km and includes 25 stops from Olaya Road to Batha, while the second line, known as the red line, covers 25 km on King Abdullah Road and includes 15 stops.

The project will see 45% Saudisation as well as training of Saudi citizens, the public transport firm said.

SAPTCO last reported turning a loss with SAR 29.8 million in the second quarter of 2018, against SAR 39.46 million in profit in the year-ago period.
