Abu Dhabi and Dubai Police issued a joint statement warning against reckless driving and racing on highways and in residential areas. These races are usually organised by young motorists during the holy month of Ramadan.

Abu Dhabi police added that races usually start at late hours of the night and last into the morning (Suhoor) - called "Al Fujrayat" races.

Brigadier Salem Barak Al Dhaheri, Deputy Director of Traffic and Patrols Department at Abu Dhabi Police said that both Abu Dhab and Dubai Police have prepared a plan to monitor and control such harmful activities on the roads.

He added that the plan is a result of cooperation between both forces in all fields, which aim at providing better services.

Al Dhaheri stressed that racing is very dangerous, urging all motorists to avoid participating in such races as it endangers the lives of motorists and spectators as well.

On the other hand, Colonel Juma Salim Bin Suwaidan, Director General of Traffic Department at Dubai Police said that raising youth's awareness and protecting them from traffic accidents is one of police's main priorities.

He added that police is carrying out awareness campaigns in cooperation with educational institutions, universities, on media platforms and social media.

Bin Suwaidan said that motorists are allowed to race in alloted areas that are well equipped for any emergency and specially prepared for such hobbies.

He urged parents to protect their family members from reckless driving, racing or any other illegal activities.

Police warned that reckless drivers could be fined up to Dh2,000 and 23 black points placed on their license. Violators could also have their vehicle impounded for up to 60 days.
