PROJECTS: Kuwait again extends bidding for Jurassic gas projects

Kuwait has again extended bidding for two major Jurassic gas projects for nearly two weeks as they were scheduled to end on Sunday, according to the local press.

The state-owned Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), which manages the Gulf country’s upstream oil industry, decided to extend bidding for the two projects, dubbed Jurassic Production Facilities (JPF) 4&5, to 4 April, the Arabic language daily Alanba said, citing responsible sources.

“Bidding by international firms for these two large projects was scheduled to end today but KOC decided to extend the deadline to April 4,” the paper said.

In February, Zawya Projects had reported that KOC was expected to award the Engineering, Procurement and Construction contract for JPF 4&5 North Area Production Facilities package in the second quarter 2021.

Alanba did not mention what prompted the decision but said KOC had informed contractors of reasons for the extension, adding that it could have to do with coronavirus.

Kuwaiti officials said in 2020 nine companies are vying for the projects involving the construction of gas facilities in North Kuwait.

Tenders were issued nearly two years ago but were postponed due to cost adjustment and bidding deadline was initially set for 22 December.
