OPEC member Iraq has recently awarded four large projects as part of a post-war reconstruction programme in the Southern Dhi Qar Governorate, the official Iraq Alsabah newspaper reported on Tuesday.

The projects comprise an elevated bridge in Nasiriya city, road expansions in the city, development of Nasiriya seaside Corniche road, and infrastructure projects in the Sumerian Ur city in the governorate, the paper said.

“These projects and those to be offered later are part of an ongoing strategy to rebuild war damaged facilities in the governorate and its cities,” the paper said, quoting a cabinet secretariat statement.

The report did not identify the firms awarded those projects or mention their costs but Iraq has been locked in a massive reconstruction plan in key cities with total costs that could exceed $100 billion.
