Egypt's Orascom Construction announced on Monday that its joint venture in the United Arab Emirates has been awarded approximately $180 million contract for the expansion of Fujairah International Airport.
Orascom owns 60 percent of the joint venture with the UAE-based Al Sahraa Group, the company said in a statement posted on its website.
Last month, Abu Dhabi-based English language newspaper The National reported that expansion plans for Fujairah airport will see the runway upgraded to handle planes as large as an A380. The report said the work is being funded by the UAE federal government in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Airports Company.
