Muscat - Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries Co (Orpic) is planning to open international representative offices in four countries to promote its products in global markets.

“From Oman, and through a combination of Orpic offices, distributors, agents and warehouses network, Orpic will expand its footprint and grow globally,” Ahmed al Jahdhami, CEO of Orpic said during a presentation at the annual media conference organised by the Ministry of Oil and Gas on Monday. He said, “We are building capabilities to compete and market Orpic products globally. We have also established a polymer marketing company. Hopefully, we are opening marketing offices in Singapore, China, India and later in Turkey.”

As Orpic’s major strategic growth project Liwa Plastics Industries Complex (LPIC) is progressing as per schedule, Jahdhami said Orpic will have lots of products in the future that will be marketed internationally. “We are an international company now, and we have to become globally competitive to compete in the global markets.”

LPIC is a transformational project that will improve Orpic’s product mix and business model, and support the development of a downstream plastics industry in Oman. Scheduled to be completed by 2020, the US$6.4bn LPIC project has achieved 54 per cent completion rate as of February 2018.

By 2020, Orpic will be a firmly recognised competitive player in the world polymers market, successfully providing complete value solutions to customers, and running one of the most integrated oil refining and petrochemical facilities in the world including two refineries, aromatics plant, steam cracker and downstream polypropylene and polyethylene plants.

Orpic’s strategic growth projects known as Sohar Refinery Improvement Project (SRIP), Muscat Sohar Product Pipeline (MSPP) and LPIC are progressing as per schedule. SRIP and MSPP have already entered the operational phase in 2017.

“We firmly believe that these three major projects will transform Orpic’s business model and product mix over the next years and will firmly reinforce Orpic as a recognised player in the international petrochemicals marketplace,” Jahdhami said in a press statement issued by Orpic.
