As part of its efforts to ensure unhindered rescue and relief operations in areas ravaged by the tropical storm Shaheen, the Royal Oman Police sent additional task forces to the wilayats of Suwaiq and Khaboura on Monday.


According to a statement, from the Special Task Force Police Unit in the Wilayat of Rustaq is supporting the ongoing efforts in clearing debris and restoring basic services.


“Sending this force comes within the national and humanitarian duty of the ROP and an affirmation of solidarity and cooperation with the government agencies and citizens to stand by those affected by the tropical storm”, the statement said.


A massive effort continues to support the people affected by the tropical storm in the wilayats of Suwaiq, Khabourah and Mussanah.


Statements by the National Committee for Emergency Management (NCEM) reveal that almost 99 per cent of services like electricity, water, telecommunications, fuel and roads have been completed in South Al Batinah governorate.


The ROP statement said that the task force will extend their support in search and evacuation operations and also transportation of supplies to rugged and mountainous areas.


“The forces will also provide advice and guidance to citizens and residents in addition to regulating traffic in accordance with the road conditions”, it said.
