Iraq and Turkey recently discussed the cross-border railway project between the two countries via the north-western Iraqi border town of Rabia, planning ministry spokesperson Abdul-Zahra Al-Hindawi said.

He said the railway project was discussed during a meeting between the Minister of Planning, Khaled Battal Al-Najm, and the Turkish ambassador to Iraq, Ali Reza Günay.

In February, Turkey’s English language news website Daily Sabah reported that Iraq is planning a railway line that runs from Al Faw Grand Port in the southern province of Basra to the capital Baghdad and then to the Turkish border.

During the meeting, the officials discussed the possibility of attracting Turkish investments in Iraq’s housing sector to bridge the demand-supply gap.

Al-Hindawi said the planning minister also invited Turkish investors to participate in investment opportunities in the Al-Faw Grand port, which includes 25 berths.
