Cairo – Mubasher: The Ras Ghareb wind farm cost around EGP 12 billion, according to the Egyptian Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Hala El-Saeed.

With a power generation capacity of 580 megawatts (MW), the 300-turbine Ras Ghareb wind farm is one of the world's largest, El-Saeed disclosed in a statement on Sunday.

The planning minister further noted that the Egyptian government has recently adopted a long-term strategy for energy diversification, with 42% of energy to be produced from renewable sources by 2035.

Egypt seeks to produce 20% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2020, through the expansion in wind power generation projects along the Red Sea, as well as solar energy projects, including the 150 MW solar power plant in the Kuraymat area with investments of $125 million.
