Saudi Arabia – Finance students and early career professionals from Saudi Arabia were among the top participants in this year’s Global Virtual Skills Conference, an annual event led by ICAEW (the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales).

As the Kingdom accelerates its national economic development plans, having a diversified and effective financial sector is essential to its growth. The ICAEW conference, held from 28 – 30 September, attracted more than 1000 students and alumni from seven of Saudi Arabia’s top universities, representing 23.5% of the registered international audience. The participating Saudi universities included:

  • University of Jeddah
  • King Abdulaziz University (The Applied College)
  • Saudi Electronic University (Accounting Department)
  • Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University
  • Princess Nourah Bint Abdulrahman University
  • University of Business and Technology
  • Prince Sultan University

With a focus on educating finance students on the skills they need to compete in today’s job market, this year’s conference comprised 24 sessions led by a panel of international experts and HR professionals. Sharing their knowledge and experience to help students boost their career development, discussions centred on the most important soft skills, behaviours, and values that employers are looking for today. These include digital and technology skills, communication skills, teamwork, decision making, problem solving and ethics and professionalism.

Michael Armstrong, FCA and ICAEW Regional Director for the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA), said: “In line with Vision 2030, the Kingdom is witnessing remarkable economic and financial structural reforms to promote economic growth and generate employment in the private sector. Coupled by the COVID-19 economic recovery efforts, and the urgency to address climate concerns, organisations are having to adapt their operations. This emphasises the importance of equipping young Saudi professionals with the critical skills required to meet today’s business challenges and tomorrow’s opportunities.

“We would like to thank the universities for their participation, and for helping to instil a culture of continuous learning and development among their student communities. We applaud the Saudi students who joined us for this global event, for their enthusiasm and commitment to benchmarking themselves against their international and local peers. We firmly believe that this will not only help to boost their employment prospects but also improve the Kingdom’s business environment, so that the economy grows and flourishes, driving healthier employment opportunities for citizens and long-term prosperity for all.”

The event was attended by more than 4,900 students, graduates, and early career professionals worldwide. Sessions from the conference are now available on demand. To register and watch, click: ICAEW ‘Global Virtual Skills Conference’.
