Alawwal Bank sponsors international conference on nutrition, food safety and food waste
Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia - 11 April, 2017
With the nation’s health high on the agenda due to Vision 2030, attention is being drawn to nutrition, food safety and food waste at a conference taking place in Riyadh this week. These three topics are being seen as more and more interconnected in the Kingdom’s plans for a healthier socio-economic society.
The Ministry of Health recently issued local initaitives that are designed to educate citizens and residents on the required daily amount of nutrients and maintaining a regular and consistent exercise routine. By educating citizens and residents on a healthy lifestyle, and in particular, a blanced diet, will eventutally diminish the risk of nutrition-assocated illnesses such as obesity, diabetes, vitamin deficiency, heart disease and other conditions.
The Etaam International Conference, under the patronage of HRH Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Riyadh, is taking place from 11-12 April. Etaam, a food charity initiative, is being held under the theme ‘Food Preservation is the Solution’ at the King Abdullah Center for National Dialogue.
Senior Saudi dignitaries and experts from around the world are expected to attend the event to share their expertise and international best practice in preserving food and reducing food waste. Alawwal Bank, a keynote sponsor of the conference, is a strong supporter of awareness and education programs that are serve societal good for the community.
The Etaam conference aims to highlight the objectives of the Saudi Vision 2030 in light of nutritional health and the inter-relationship between the amount of food people consume, waste, and food security; key concepts for society to understand.
It will also examine practical ways to use new media in spreading awareness of food preservation and eliminating food waste.
Saudi Arabia has the highest number of Twitter users in the Middle East and is the largest social media market in the region as a result of the high rate of smartphone ownership. According to 2014 statistics released by the Dubai School of Government, the Kingdom is home to more than 40% of all active Twitter users in the entire Arab region.
The conference will also touch upon the societal benefits of volunteering with charities. A key goal is to instill the value of compassion and empathy towards the less fortunate members of society, reiterating the importance of the roles individuals play in society.
Alawwal’s participation in this conference is reflective of the bank’s commitment to corporate social responsibility programs that contribute to the community and its keenness in adopting such positive initiatives.
