• Lime launched with 300 scooters in Abu Dhabi in November, marking the first Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) launch country for the company.
  • Lime has deployed by the Corniche with 150 hotspots

Abu Dhabi: Lime, the innovative, urban mobility provider, is proving to be popular among tourists and residents in Abu Dhabi, with the equivalent distance of over 26 trips between Dubai and the Capital having been travelled so far on its e-scooters since hitting the streets of Abu Dhabi at the end of November.

On average, Lime users in the capital are using the scooters for over 20 minutes per ride as they explore the Corniche and so far, the rides they have taken have prevented the emission of nearly a tonne of Co2 already.

The capital is the first market in the GCC to launch Lime scooters and joins a network of over 120 cities worldwide to offer the distinctive scooters to help commuters, residents and tourists move around in a swift, easy and sustainable way.

An initial fleet of three hundred scooters are now available at strategic locations along the capital city’s 8km-long Corniche, providing a smart alternative to how people can get around, whether commuting to work, meeting with friends or just travelling around the city.

Taking the reins at Lime for the UAE is Mohamad Nsouli, General Manager, Lime UAE. Mr. Nsouli joins the company from Careem, where he was previously the Commercial Head for new ride hailing services.

Speaking about the interest since launch, he commented: “Abu Dhabi is a great city for electric scooters and we’re really excited that people are choosing to get on a Lime e-scooter to get around. So far we know that the average ride time is around 20 minutes and some people are travelling as far as 19km.

He added: “This is Lime’s first market in the GCC, and the launch is timely given that Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week kicks off on January 11. It’s an exciting time for us as we continue to work together with the Abu Dhabi authorities to make the city even more connected and bring a fun, smart and convenient solution to get around.”

With over 100M+ rides globally, Lime is reducing the number of cars on the road - one in four riders said their last Lime ride replaced a car trip, which prevented an estimated 25M miles of car travel & 9,000 metric tons of carbon emissions. Lime estimate that these rides have saved over 1,200,000 gallons of gas––the equivalent of taking 1,900 cars off the road for a year.

With the majority of trips (60%) made being under 10km in length, and most walking trips being less than 1km, Lime scooters offer a great solution for Abu Dhabi residents and visitors looking for a fun, quick and eco-friendly way to move around the capital.

How Lime works

To use Lime, riders simply download the app, locate a scooter on the map, and unlock it with the tap of a button. When the ride is completed, riders simply follow in app instructions to end the ride and responsibly park it. Riding on Lime will cost 3 AED to unlock and every minute of riding will be an additional 1 AED. The company is committed to safety and comfort and urge riders to always wear helmets.
