Dubai, UAE: Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), the world’s largest district cooling services provider, concluded its participation in the International District Energy Association (IDEA) Campus Energy 2019 Conference. The conference was organised by IDEA, from 26 February to 1 March 2019, in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, in conjunction with IDEA Board meeting, to bring experts and professionals together from the district cooling sector and to share experiences and explore new solutions for the industry, particularly microgrids, which have become a key component of modern and sustainable cities.

Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, headed a delegation from Empower, and attended the IDEA board meeting as a member of the Board of Directors. He also attended the opening session, led by Rob Thornton, President of IDEA, which discussed the current trends, emerging technologies and utility industry evolution and navigating risks/rewards for a more resilient, efficient and lower-carbon future campus energy systems to universities, health care centres, research centres, and many others.

Important workshops were also conducted as part of the IDEA Campus Energy 2019, and they focused mainly on “smart grids” among other topics.

The Empower delegation attended the conference as well as the Microgrid Workshop that addressed various topics such as opportunities and challenges of microgrids as well as planning for the future with cyber-secure microgrids, identifying key design elements of microgrids, using advanced technology to support business objectives and clean energy, and other related topics.

Bin Shafar stressed the importance of the workshops conducted as part of the conference, as they created a positive exchange of views and successful experiences among professionals in district cooling and heating. These workshops provide an overview of the district cooling sector, which is currently witnessing steady growth globally, due of its benefits that motivate investors to adopt solutions that contribute to increasing energy efficiency.
