Manama, Bahrain: The second workshop “The Director’s World of the Directors Development Programme for Women (DDPW), took place on 26th and 27th February organized by EMIC Training alongside its strategic partner, the National Bank of Bahrain and the GCC Board of Directors Institute (BDI). The programme, which is supported by Tamkeen aims to help prepare current and aspiring females for roles as directors.

The second workshop of the programme titled ‘Director’s World’, aimed to assist participants with better understanding the role of the board, the role of the director, as well as the responsibilities and duties involved. Topics covered during the session ranged from Corporate Governance, Types of Directors, Key Governance Roles, as well as an overview of the regulations and codes of corporate governance in the Kingdom.

The workshop also hosted HE Khalid Al Rumaihi, CEO of Mumtalakat who highlighted the importance of a gender-balanced board for improved business performance, explaining, “Women on boards and as chairs can bring the benefits of their insights and expertise while also being collaborative and excellent team players. Boards should seek diversity in age, background, skills and gender.”

In his opening remarks, Jean-Christophe Durand, CEO of NBB said, “This programme comes as a result of joint efforts to empower women in the workforce, and to unlock their full potential, we believe that it is essential to support their pursuit of executive roles. It also reaffirms our commitment to being closer to the needs of our community and our seriousness about developing and empowering its members. This is one of many initiatives we aim to participate in, as we are of the belief that investing in our people is integral to the progression of our nation. I would also like to take this opportunity to give special thanks to BDI, EMIC and Tamkeen for their continuous support and belief in this initiative.”

Commenting on the occasion, Mohamed Matar, General Manger at EMIC Training said, “We are delighted to be hosting yet another session of DDPW, which aims to create and drive a platform for women to showcase their knowledge, interest and experience through education and networking. As a leadership & management institution, we look forward to supporting more and more DDPW participants to excel in their careers regardless of their field, age, industry or area of expertise.”

The programme, which has a total of 63 members representing a variety of sectors including Banking and Finance, Telecommunications, Oil and Gas, Public, Services, Medical and Manufacturing.
