Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) issued a consultancy services tender for Stage 2 of its aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) project.

The ASR project aims to store excess water in aquifers and pump that back into the water network when needed.

In a public notice issued on Wednesday, the utility said the closing date for submission of bids is 15 September 2021.

In June, DEWA had announced that it is implementing an ASR project to store 6 billion gallons of water in aquifers that can be retrieved when needed. The utility said the project would provide Dubai with a strategic reserve of over 50 million gallons of desalinated water per day in emergencies for 90 days.

In 2017, DEWA had appointed Dornier Consulting to provide design, supervision and testing services for an ASR pilot project in South Eastern part of Dubai and the conceptual design of a full-scale ASR system, according to the German consultancy’s website.
