Dubai welcomed  delegates representing 173 countries and 24 international organizations at the final International Participants Meeting before Expo 2020 Dubai opens in October. "The world is recovering..and we are ready to welcome 190 countries to the World's Greatest Event," Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, tweeted.

Expo 2020, which starts in October, is expected to attract visitors to the UAE. The Emirates is depending on the global event, which has been delayed for a year due to COVID-19, to boost its economy.

“We are very optimistic on the numbers for the year,” Dubai Tourism Chief Executive Issam Kazim told reporters on Tuesday. Dubai welcomed 1.26 million visitors in the first quarter of the year, while last year the number of visitors fell 67 percent to 5.5 million.

Dubai's Crown Prince, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed al-Maktoum said in April that the emirate will offer COVID-19 vaccines to official representatives of countries participating in Expo 2020 Dubai.
