Doha: With its recent confirmation in the Réseau Francophone de la Régulation des Télécommunications (FRATEL), the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) is now among over 40 global postal and telecommunication regulators joining hands to discuss innovative approaches to regulation, regulatory trends and best practices.
Joining FRATEL is part of CRA’s wider strategic approach to foster dialogue with key international stakeholders and industry leaders in the ICT & Postal sectors. CRA intends to leverage from these partnerships and discussions to implement effective regulatory instruments, regulations and policies in Qatar.
FRATEL’s main objective is to provide a platform for regulators to share innovative approaches to regulation, and identify regulatory trends and best practices to the benefit of all members. FRATEL facilitates the coordination and cooperation of its members. Membership of FRATEL will also give CRA access to leading sector events, databases, academic research and training programs.
“In a sector growing and changing as rapidly as communications, it is crucial that we can exchange insights and experience, and improve our cooperation with leading regulators from around the world. Membership of organizations such as FRATEL will ensure that we continue to have a deeper understanding of the dynamics of our industry. In turn, this will help us ensuring that the proper regulation and infrastructure is in place to sustain the development of Qatar’s telecoms and postal sectors. Ultimately, consumers experience will improve through the ubiquitous availability of smart, innovative and high-quality services,” said His Excellency Mohammed Ali Al-Mannai, President of CRA.
“I am delighted to welcome CRA to FRATEL, Qatar has one of the most advanced telecom infrastructures in the MENA region and is our only member from the Gulf region so they will bring us a unique and important perspective.” said Diéméléou Bile, President of FRATEL.
FRATEL aims to establish and strengthen collaboration and exchanges between its members. The network's mission is to promote the exchange of information, to contribute, as far as possible, to training efforts, coordination and technical cooperation among its members, as well as to contribute to the study of any question relating to the regulation of telecommunications. The Coordinating Committee is responsible for creating all FRATEL members proposals for the implementation of the network's annual action plan and President of FRATEL changes every year with members taking turns to lead.
