Elsewedy Electric for Trade and Distribution and the Upper Egypt Electricity Distribution Company have signed a contract to implement an external electricity network in the Toshka area, south Egypt.

The contracts signing was witnessed by Egypts Deputy Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Osama Asran.

The network will cover an area of 40,000 feddan, and will cost an estimated EGP 100m, including consulting works, designs, supervision, implementation, and installations.

The contract stipulates that Elsewedy will implement the project, with work to be completed early next October.

The Electric Power Systems Engineering Company will undertake the design and consultancy work. and participate in supervising the implementation with the Upper Egypt Electricity Distribution Company.

The Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy is currently undertaking the necessary measures to implement the network as a matter of urgent priority. The network will form part of the first phase in the Toshka regions South Valley Development Project.

The ministry is currently implementing several high and ultra high voltage networks and transformer stations that will expand on the Toshka station, increasing its current voltage of 220 kV to 500 kV. It will also continue the construction of the 255 km-long, 550 kV Benban 3 – Toshka electric line.

The comes as Egypt is preparing its national economy to meet the challenges posed by the current local and global conditions. The Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy has undertaken close cooperation with the Ministry of Defences National Service Projects Organization. The cooperation is to provide electric power to areas targeted for reclamation within the South Valley Development Project, especially the first phase, which covers 289,000 feddan.
