Sharjah: In conjunction with the global breast cancer awareness month, which is marked in October every year, Sharjah Ladies Club (SLC) announced a series of activities to raise women’s health awareness about breast cancer and the importance of early detection and treatment. Some activities are held at the club’s premises and others are held online to encourage women to follow a healthy lifestyle, which is a key component to prevent diseases.

The Club will be collaborating with the Pink Caravan, an initiative by Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP), to host an awareness lecture about breast cancer, and provide valuable guidelines on how to conduct proper self-examinations. The lecture will be virtually held on Instagram Live in SLC’s account on October 7th, between 6:00 and 6:30 pm.

Fitness 180°  center, will also be organizing an on-site stationary “Soul Ride” class on October 26th at 6:00 pm. 50% of ticket proceeds will be donated to the Pink Caravan.

Throughout the month of October, our F&B outlets will be incorporating pink-themed food and healthy drinks, to complement the wide variety of awareness and sports events held at the club. The Sports Complex will offer free services for breast cancer patients, granting them access to the ice rink, leisure pool and the beach on specific days.

A hair donation drive will also be organized by Orchid Beauty Boutique during the month, a worthy cause to support breast cancer patients and survivors.

Khawla Al Serkal, Director General of SLC, commented on the initiative: “The club is keen to be part of the breast cancer awareness month, with purposeful events to inspire hope and educate women on how to conduct early screenings to diagnose potential breast cancer risks. This falls in line with the club’s community role, to support women’s health through fitness activities, seminars and various services that motivate women to take care of themselves, to be able to care for their families.”

“The Pink October virtual activities embody the club's vision and societal mission to provide an awareness platform for its women and build a safe and healthy community in Sharjah and the UAE. This aligns with the continuous efforts by FOCP in increasing awareness about the diseases among women in our society" she added.
