Dubai – Middlesex University Dubai is proud to announce that 92 members of its student body have been granted internships across various departments at Expo 2020 Dubai. Taking place from Friday, October 1, 2021 to Thursday, March 31, 2022, the groundbreaking global gathering will offer the students countless opportunities to learn, connect with professionals from across the world and gain valuable real-world experiences, serving as the ideal complement to their academic studies.

The chosen students all went through a rigorous selection process in order to gain these much sought-after placements. The internships will see them take on a wide range of roles throughout the six-month event and learn vital career skills in an exciting multi-national environment. As well as witnessing the world’s latest products and innovations, they will be able to network with representatives from today’s most cutting-edge and impressive organisations.

In addition, several members of the faculty at Middlesex University Dubai will take on prominent roles at Expo 2020 Dubai. For instance, Professor Evangelos Moustakas, Campus Programme Coordinator and Head of the University’s Centre of Innovation and Excellence, has been appointed Team Leader of the Sustainability Pavilion. After guiding his students through the internship selection process through his role at the Expo 2020 House of Volunteers and helping them to secure so many spots, he is now responsible for leading and motivating the team at this crucial pavilion. He will also share his expert opinion on how to improve the overall visitor experience, and make the pavilion as successful as possible.

Dr Cedwyn Fernandes, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Middlesex University and Director of Middlesex University Dubai, said: “At Middlesex University Dubai, we strive to provide our students with valuable opportunities outside the classroom, as well as in it. This helps build their skills and enhance their employability, and I’m exceptionally proud that we are one of a very select group of universities who can provide these Expo 2020 internships to our students. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be a part of something really special. Expo 2020 is literally ‘The World’s Greatest Show’ and I know our students will benefit hugely from gaining experience in such an international, innovative and truly unique working environment. It will really help them stand out from the crowd when it comes to finding their first job. On behalf of all of us at Middlesex University Dubai, I want to extend a huge thank you to Expo 2020 for providing our students with this amazing opportunity.”

Meanwhile, Muskaan Dembla, a third-year BA Accounting and Finance student has been offered an internship in Expo 2020’s Media Department. She said: “During the internship, I will get to get to work with a lot of different people and further explore my talents in various areas of the industry. I’m confident that it will help my career prospects when I graduate and I’m so grateful to have this opportunity to improve my skills and make myself a more a more employable young professional. It’s an absolute honour to be able to serve and represent the UAE, a country that I’ve been lucky enough to call home for many years.”

Expo 2020 Dubai will be the largest event ever held in the Arab world, and the first World Expo to be hosted in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia.

About Middlesex University Dubai:

Middlesex University Dubai is the first overseas campus of the renowned Middlesex University based in London, UK. The University’s first learning space in Dubai opened at Dubai Knowledge Park (DKP) in 2005 and has over 3,800 students studying from more than 118 nationalities. It is an exciting, diverse and multicultural campus that prides itself on providing a student experience with a difference. As a testament to the growth and success of its thriving international student community, the University opened a second campus location in Dubai International Academic City (DIAC) in September 2021. This is the first time a UK university in Dubai will offer a multi-site campus experience across both of the emirate’s international higher educational hubs. DKP and DIAC were set up in 2003 and 2007 respectively for international institutions that promote learning. Middlesex University Dubai students, therefore, have the opportunity to participate in a much wider student community.

The University offers a wide range of foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across both locations, including: Accounting and Finance, Business Management, Marketing, Computer Engineering, IT, Data Science, Robotics, Education, Psychology, Law, Digital Media, Film, Creative Writing and Journalism, Fashion Design, Graphic Design, and many more. As well as having all the advantages associated with being a world-class British university, students at both Middlesex University Dubai campuses can benefit from all the opportunities afforded by a rapidly-developing modern city in the heart of the Middle East, while experiencing the diverse nationalities and cultures that make up the population of Dubai.

Middlesex University is a global university committed to meeting the needs and ambitions of a culturally and internationally diverse range of students, by providing challenging academic programmes underpinned by innovative research, grants and professional practice. Middlesex University Dubai prepares its students to be professional, skilled individuals fitted for the modern world, committed to life-long learning and able to contribute to the communities in which they live and work.
