Sharjah: The Health Promotion Department (HPD) at the Supreme Council for Family Affairs (SCFA) in Sharjah will launch on 4 March a new awareness-raising programme titled “Healthy Lifestyle”. Coinciding with World Obesity Day, the year-long programme aims to correct the myths and misconceptions about nutrition, raise awareness of community members about the importance of opting for healthy diets, and educate them on how to choose healthy foods while shopping and buying food items.

Based on the reports of the World Health Organization and the Ministry of Health and Prevention, the programme is featuring virtual health consultations about how to adopt healthy lifestyles and is targeting the staff of the SCFA and its affiliated departments, public and private institutions in Sharjah, school and university students, parents, and sports coaches.

HE Iman Rashid Saif, Director of Health Promotion Department, said the Programme is part of our keenness to promote the health of community members and stimulate them to follow healthy lifestyles, pointing out that the HPD’s efforts are focused on launching scientific-based and innovative programs that contribute to raising health awareness of the individuals.

She explained that the programme aims to open up new windows for communication with community members to provide them with the necessary tips about the importance of adopting healthy lifestyles to prevent diseases, noting that the programme also includes the “Healthy shopping” initiative which seeks to help the individuals opt for healthy foods and lifestyles.

Saif pointed out that the Programme comprises a group of health specialists and experts to enhance community awareness about the importance of healthy nutrition and food safety and their impact on public health and to get them acquainted with the most important tips about choosing healthy foods while shopping and ways to maintain food safety and prevent food contamination.
