Glion Institute of Higher Education, a prestigious private Swiss institution that is ranked amongst the top three hospitality management schools worldwide, is participating in the 5thAnnual Gulf Education Conference & Exhibition taking place for the first time in Abu Dhabi. The event which is held under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development will take place between the 17thand 19thof March at the Dusit Thani Abu Dhabi.

This year's conference will showcase innovative and effective advances in education necessary for workforce development. Glion will also present its innovative approach to education and training which equips its students with a unique set of skills and understanding of the industry.

The GCC hospitality industry is expected to grow at an annual rate of 9.5% to US$ 35.9 billion by 2018 compared to the US$ 22.8 billion in 2013. This level of growth is unique in the world and the pressure is on for the industry to hire talent.

Industry experts and Glion Faculty, Mary Farmer and Henri Kuokkanen will be presenting on topics that are of vital importance to the industry in the region. Mary Farmer is the Director of Glion Online Programs for Glion Institute of Higher Education in Switzerland and a pioneer in online and distance learning. She will be addressing the trend towards applied online learning as a means of facilitating professional development and institutional strengthening in the Gulf Region and worldwide.

Henri Kuokkanen is a full-time Research Fellow at Glion Graduate School, where he also teaches revenue management and corporate social responsibility. He will be speaking on industry-education partnerships and developing graduate skills through commissioned research. Glion Graduate School narrows the gap between studies and career by offering MBA students an opportunity to participate in real-life commissioned research projects with a range of industry partners. The presentation will share experiences from these projects, providing insights into how such partnerships can help in developing well equipped and trained people for the large projects the Gulf region is engaging in.
