Ex-Economy Minister and Veteran Attorney Hatim Sharif Zu'bi launches his Autobiography Book

Manama: Zu’bi & Partners hosted a glittering reception at the Bahrain National Museum in Manama to mark the launch of Hatim Sharif Zu’bi, Hon. G.B.E.’s recently published autobiography titled “A Story of Will, Determination and Hope”, in the presence of H.E. Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, Chairman of Bahrain Shura Council, H.E. Shaikha Mai Bint Mohammed Al-Khalifa, President of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, the Jordanian Ambassador to Bahrain H.E. Rami Wraikat, and attended by a prestigious list of VIPs, ambassadors, diplomats, the Kingdom’s legal community and the author himself, alongside members of the Zu’bi family and friends. 

The book spans the nine decades of Mr.  Zu’bi’s life, retelling the most memorable moments of his exceptional personal and professional life, achievements and success stories. This includes a vivid description of his rich career path, which exceeds a half century of hard work and relentless devotion to excellence and spanning positions in the world of Economics, Banking and Finance and advocacy and legal consultancy across the Arab world.

Mr. Zu’bi was born on 17 June 1927 in Al Nasera, Palestine. He was forcibly migrated away from his homeland in the aftermath of Al Nakba 1948. He went on to receive an LL.B. Hons. Degree from University College, London in 1949 and was accepted as a Barrister-at-Law by Lincoln’s Inn in 1950. He has been at various times Licensed Advocate & Legal Consultant in Jordan, Bahrain, U.A.E., Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia since 1971. From 1950 to 1954, he was Advocate for the Ministry of Finance in Jeddah and Dammam, Saudi Arabia and from 1954 to 1955, he was Special Counsel to the US Aid Mission, Jordan. From 1965 to 1969, he was Minister of National Economy, Minister of Finance and Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and Jordan’s Governor at the World Bank. In 1971, Mr. Zu’bi established his law practice in Abu Dhabi and Bahrain covering the GCC countries.

Mr. Zu’bi moved to Bahrain in 1971, where he started his advocacy and legal consultancy business, becoming one of the legal profession pioneers with the opening of Zu’bi & Partners office to serve the GCC countries, then expanding his legal offerings by launching new offices in Abu Dhabi, Qatar and Oman, making him the leading provider of advocacy and legal consultancy services in the new millennium.

In his opening speech, the Jordanian Ambassador to Bahrain H.E. Rami Wraikat praised Mr. Zu’bi’s countless achievements in the fields of finance, economics, banking, advocacy and legal consultancy, achieving tremendous contributions that served the economies of to the Arab world. 

Speaking at the reception, Mr. Zu’bi said that he authored his autobiography to share with the mass his interesting life and work paths, discussing how the qualities of strong will, determination and hope remain major success factors for any human resource or promising project in the Arab region.  

Mr. Zu’bi pointed out: “In the course of my professional career, God has blessed me with the opportunity to run businesses in the arab world and earn the trust of decision-makers, namely, kings, princes and presidents. Ultimately, I have maintained this trust through hard work and dedication, whether in the financial sector, in the ministry, or in my practicing law. Society’s respect for me has been, and continues to be, my greatest asset,”

Mr. Zu’bi highlighted: “I’m truly honored to work in KSA, UAE, and Kuwait, opening offices in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, practicing law in Kuwait and building up great friendships. And I was honored to be part of forming important laws in Oman and facilitating some trade operations. Moreover, I was so glad to get a legal consultant license in KSA, dealing with lots of legal cases in Riyadh, Jeddah, Khubar and Dammam, and I’m still in contact with a lot of Saudi friends and respected comrades,”

Mr. Zu’bi added: “I’m so proud to see my grandson Hatem Qais Zu’bi leading the fourth generation of our advocacy family business, walking in the footsteps of his ancestors,”

Mr. Zu’bi stressed out: “Advocacy and legal consultancy is a sacred profession. In a challenging world today, it is imperative that lawyers be more adherent to the rules, regulations, values and ethics of the profession. A lawyer with a high standard of knowledge and competence, combined with integrity and a sense of morals, will be able to provide his clients with first-class services.”

Mr. Zu’bi concluded: “My pain is closely linked to my experience of the conspiracy that facilitated Israel’s occupation of my homeland. I witnessed the Israeli aggression of 1967, which plundered more Arab lands. However, pain did not take root in despair, rather it provided me with an incentive to defeat the ache by hurt myself with a determination to invest in education, in work and in hope, a hope that, one day, international justice and humanity will prevail, Palestine will regain its freedom and the Arab world will stand tall again.”
