Cairo – A press conference was held today at Conrad Cairo hotel, to announce the launch of Egypt’s first wholesale mall specialized in mobile phone accessories, located in the commercial project of Arkadia; in the presence of Dr. Ali Fahmy, Chairman of Delta RS, the owner of RadioShack. The Mobile Phone Accessory Importers’ association (under construction) announced the mall launch as part of an initiative introduced by a consortium of 63 of the field’s major traders and importers. Representing the first phase of the initiative, a total of 60 stores are set to open on Friday, January 29, 2020, besides another 60 stores over the next three months. This comes as a key step in a lineup of efforts towards achieving the government’s plan to create an organized work environment that includes the sector’s various stakeholders.

The announcement was made in the presence of a number of the industry’s icons as well as representatives from major brands, along with Osama Habib, Vice Chairman at Tasweeq for Shopping Malls Management, manager of Arkadia mall. The association includes some of the biggest wholesalers and importers specializing in mobile accessories, represented by the delegated commission on behalf of the association, which includes: Essam Badr ElDin, Head of the Communications and Mobile Division in the Chamber of Commerce in Giza, and Chairman of High Phone for mobile accessories and the authorized agent for Reno and XO; Ahmed Wahdan, Chairman of Cell Tel, owner of Cell Tel and Cactus as well as the sole authorized agent in Egypt for GENAIä; and last but not least, Hesham Abdallah Abou Shama, owner of Tust for mobile accessories and the authorized agent for JOYROOMä and RECCIä.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Ali Fahmy expressed his joy and support, and emphasized on the importance of this occasion saying: “This is a much needed initiative that comes at the right time. This step will allow us all to become part of a comprehensive economic system that serves the interest of all parties involved. And I believe it will result in further investments and stimulating more valuable ventures in the future.”

“Our days of hard work to establish a mall specializing in mobile accessories resulted in this moment; this area will be the first of its kind in Egypt, done along the same standards as others in China and India, which is projected to introduce a harmonious, yet professional environment for the wholesale mobile accessory market in Egypt. We chose Arkadia as all concerned parties, including the management and previous store owners, welcomed and embraced the concept,” Essam Badr ElDin described the significance of launching such a concept. He then added saying that “at the beginning of 2020, the volume of the official mobile phone accessories market reached a total of EGP 2 billion; however, this only represents 10% of the total value of the accessory market in Egypt.”

On the other hand, Hehsam Abdallah Abou Shama added saying “supported by major dealers and importers across Egypt, we are able to move forward with the initiative and officially open our doors on January 29 alongside 63 other stores taking up 120 units.” According to estimates offered by the association, all 63 dealers will invest a total of EGP 100 million directing them towards inventory as well as renting and buying units. “The association is also working to acquire all available 520 units at the mall by the end of 2022 in order to further establish itself as a niche destination that exclusively sells mobile accessories,” Abou Shama clarified.

Accordingly, Ahmed Wahdan stressed, “This is the perfect time to move forward with such step and put an end to the randomness that has plagued this field over the past years. In addition to establishing a clear system, this initiative will contribute to a smoother transfer of experiences from other leading markets around us.” He went on to add, “This is an invitation to all major companies, brands, and importers to join us as we pave the way to form an association that protects our rights and regulations as importers. We hope to become the first link in a chain of future establishments that serve the industry as a whole.”

On his part, Osama Habib added: “Since day one, the mall’s management was thrilled to become part of this project. We promise that we will employ all the tools we have at our disposal in order to provide tenants with a solid start to a one-of-a-kind establishment in Egypt.” Moreover, Habib clarified that the management is also serious about implementing all necessary preventive measures to curb the spread of COVID-19, “we will be monitoring the quality of ventilation and sterilization throughout the whole mall to ensure the safety of tenants as well as shoppers. Moreover, we will provide training for workers in the maintenance and security departments to make sure that these measures are adopted.”
