Dubai: Dubai based online retailer CycleSouq.com, has seen a significant rise in bicycles and accessory sales since the Covid-19 global pandemic. The e-retailer, specialising in accessible and affordable products, has seen sales grow 5 times year on year, experiencing a demand for its cycling products like never before.
Throughout 2020, consumers saw a worldwide bike shortage; with increased anxiety around public transport and a desire to maintain fitness levels during lockdown, and the industry witnessing a surge in demand. Since March 2020, Cycle Souq largely saw a growth in adult bikes and continue to grow this year as well by 170% in sale. Followed by children’s bicycles and scooters which are also seeing an increase in sales this year of 54%. A spokesperson at Cycle Souq said “A focus on their family’s general health and wellbeing moved swiftly to the forefront of everyone’s minds, so as soon as the national lockdown was lifted in April, this triggered a significant jump in online sales across our products. As opposed to indoor gyms, cycling has become accepted as a ‘safe’ exercise option that is enjoyed outdoors and socially distanced.”
Cycle Souq has also observed a heightened demand for bikes and accessories beyond the UAE, so recently pursued an expansion of its global footprint throughout the GCC, starting with delivery to Oman. Plans to deliver to further GCC countries are underway.
“Though we seem to have passed the pandemic peak, we are still sustaining ourselves at the same numbers as we did last year and hitting all sort of records as a business.” Says Cycle Souq spokesperson.
