The General Council for Islamic Banks and Financial Institutions (CIBAFI), the umbrella of Islamic financial institutions, in cooperation with S&P Global Ratings and under the patronage of the Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) is organizing a Seminar on Credit Ratings: “Focus on Islamic Banks and Sukuk Ratings Methodology” in Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain on 29th – 30th April 2019.

Following the success of the first joint seminar between CIBAFI and S&P in 2017, CIBAFI continues its cooperation with S&P for the second time in 2019 to organize a Seminar on credit ratings which will also highlight innovations in Islamic finance, including green sukuk, which has attracted cumulative interest from investors in Islamic and traditional finance sectors. Green Sukuk is a new market for Islamic finance, catering to the needs of investors in the responsible and sustainable finance sector, which has been one of the major trends of recent global investments.

This Seminar will provide a great opportunity to understand the vital role in assessing the creditworthiness of sovereigns, Islamic (and conventional) banks, and Islamic financial market instruments; a fundamental understanding of the components that result in a high or low credit rating.

The seminar will start with a panel session for an insightful discussion on Sovereign ratings Outlook: Emerging Markets Headwinds and Implications for Islamic Financial Institutions with senior directors from S&P Global Ratings, and other guest speakers.

Participants will be able to identify the methodology and outcomes of credit ratings during the seminar as well as gain more fruitful insights about other subjects of credit ratings.

This seminar is an initiative that is aligned with the third CIBAFI’s objective of Training and Professional Empowerment which endeavor to enhance capacity building in the Islamic financial services industry (IFSI). CIBAFI, as the ‘voice’ of the industry, aims to provide a high-level platform to develop the human capital and bring industry professionals together to encourage dialogue and enhance knowledge sharing on most relevant matters of the IFSI. It is also part of S&P Global Ratings’ long-standing journey of providing market intelligence and developing Islamic financial markets and regional capital markets.
