Kingdom of Bahrain: Al Baraka Banking Group today announced the retirement of its Executive Vice President – Head of Operations & Administration, Mr. Abdulrahman Shehab, effective December 31, 2020.

Mr. Shehab has served in his current role as Head of Operations & Administration at the Group head office since May 2006, where he oversaw the Group’s most critical operations and management processes. 

A grand farewell event was held in the Group Headquarters at Al Baraka Towers on December 30, 2020, that was attended by key employees and Executive Management of Al Baraka Banking Group in Shaikh Saleh Kamel Hall. All of the staff members got to view the ceremony virtually while maintaining safe distance.

During the farewell ceremony, The President & Chief Executive of Al Baraka Banking Group, Mr. Adnan Ahmed Yousif, stated, “ During Abdulrahman’s tenure as the Head of Operations & Administration, he played a very crucial role in helping the Group adapt to significant changes in process control, governance of the Units and firm leadership. The entire Operations control at the Head Office, which included Back Office Operations, IT Department, Human Resource, Investors Relations, Corporate Communications, Branding and PR, were under his direct control”.

Mr. Yousif added, “In the process, Shehab served as a champion for establishing new systems and procedures which were adopted throughout the Group and thus contributed significantly to our robust governance structure. He played a very important role in the establishment of both Al Baraka Bank Syria and Bank Al Tamweel wa Al Inma (BTI Bank) Morocco”.

Mr. Abdulrahman Shehab has over 40 years’ experience with international financial institutions, both Islamic and conventional. He is a Member of the boards of Banque Al Baraka D’Algerie and Al Baraka Bank (Pakistan) Ltd. Before joining ABG in May 2006, he was Assistant Chief Executive Officer – Head of Operations & Administration at Bahrain Islamic Bank from 2002 until 2006, prior to which he was with Faysal Islamic Bank of Bahrain (now Ithmaar Bank) from 1985 to 2002. Previously, he worked at Bahrain Middle East Bank and the Bahrain branches of American Express Bank, Bank of America and Chase Manhattan Bank. He commenced his career with Habib Bank Ltd. in 1973. Mr. Abdulrahman Shehab holds a Masters degree in Business Administration from Hull University, U.K.

In his farewell speech, Mr. Abdulrahman Shehab said, “This is a most emotional moment for me as I bid farewell to this large family of Al Baraka members who have all become my very own family over the years. Not only in Bahrain, but also across the 17 countries spanning the globe, I have come to marvel at the oneness and the spirit of camaraderie that exists in the Group. While I retire to pursue some of my other goals, I do remain a true Al Baraka citizen, who has seen the organization grow in all its glory from milestone to milestone – from the very start. I am proud to be an integral part of the glorious history and ethos that has taken the Al Baraka flag far and wide – internationally”.

In his speech, Mr. Adnan Ahmed Yousif, concluded, “Abdulrahman Shehab has been a mentor to many, and his influence has made an indelible impact on generations of professionals at Al Baraka. I want to thank Abdulrahman for all he has done for the development and progress of ABG”.
