Sharjah: Students of American University of Sharjah (AUS) gathered at the university's Student Center to participate in the student council elections for the academic year 2019-2020 held yesterday, May 1. Student candidates competed for 14 elected offices that represent the university's diverse and multicultural student body.

The voting followed week-long electoral activities in which candidates canvassed for votes. The students elected to the Student Council for 2019-2020 are:

The AUS Student Council, which serves as a voice for the student body and works directly with the university administration, aims to initiate programs and projects that cater to the demands of the student body as well as promote leadership and teamwork.

Congratulating the students, said Munketh Taha, Director of Student Development and Organizations, said: “The Student Council elections this year were a resounding success in terms of student interest, organization and voter turnout. We are glad to see budding student leaders eager to work with the management to voice student concerns and express their thoughts on student-related issues. I congratulate the newly elected Student Council members and wish them the very best of luck for a productive and fruitful term. I also wish to thank the outgoing Student Council members for their many accomplishments throughout their tenure. Our appreciation to the various AUS units for their

support and the OSA staff for ensuring a smooth and orderly election.” The Student Council election was organized by the AUS Office of Student Affairs (OSA).
