CAIRO  - Egypt has imposed temporary import fees of 16% on iron billets and 25 percent on steel rebar for three years, the trade and industry ministry said on Friday.

The ministry said an investigation had concluded that a rise in imports was hurting the local industry. The duties will take effect on Saturday.

Egypt had already imposed temporary import fees in April, of 15% on iron billets and 25% on steel rebar for 180 days.
