As more Egyptians have to stay home to curb the spread of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), they would need sufficient bandwidth for work or remote learning.

Telecom Egypt decide on Tuesday to increase the bandwidth of fixed broadbands within the framework of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology’s initiative to support remote education. It comes in line with the school suspension for two weeks within the precautionary measures taken by the state to counter the emerging Coronavirus. Telecom Egypt is the first company in the Egyptian telecommunications sector to take such step.

Adel Hamed, Managing Director and CEO of Telecom Egypt, said the company increased the bandwidth of fixed broadbands by 20% for 30 days, so that students can study online without additional charges.

Hamed added that the initiative began Tuesday, and that customers will receive text messages to inform them with the new decision.

He pointed out that Telecom Egypt will provide free access to Knowledge Bank and online educational platforms to support remote education and make it easy for students to complete their studies at home during the suspension period.
