RIYADH — Saudi Arabia on Friday detected 1,686 new coronavirus cases, 4,460 additional recoveries and 24 more deaths over the past 24 hours, marking the lowest single-day infections and fatalities and one of the highest recoveries since June, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health.

This brings the total number of confirmed COVID-19 infections, recoveries and virus-related deaths in the Kingdom to 275, 905, 235,658 and 2,866.

The coronavirus recovery rate has exceeded 85 percent for the first time in the Kingdom.

There was no case of COVID-19 infection reported in the holy sites, the ministry said.

Of the new cases, the highest infections were reported in Makkah 178 cases, followed by Khamis Mushayt with 106 cases and Riyadh with 99 cases. It is for the first time in months that Riyadh recorded less than 100 new infections in a day.

According to the ministry, an injured person in one of the governorates of the Kingdom delayed testing despite showing symptoms of the disease, causing the transmission to about 20 people in his family, including the elderly.
