KUWAIT CITY: About 2,500 Kuwaiti students in various universities in Egypt are preparing to return home in the next few days as the Egyptian Council of Ministers decided to postpone the exams until the end of the mid-year vacation, reports Al- Qabas daily.

In a statement to the daily, Chairperson of the National Union of Kuwaiti Students (NUKS)-Egypt branch Ahmad Al-Shammari disclosed that most Kuwaiti students are planning to return to Kuwait as the exams were postponed.

He said the direct flight crisis continues to increase the suffering of Kuwaiti students as it drains their time and budget.

“Although the issue has been repeatedly brought to the attention of the concerned authorities in Kuwait, there has been no solution so far and the exemptions to the direct flight ban do not apply to Kuwaiti students despite the availability of transportation between the two countries. I do not know why they decided to suspend the direct flights,” he added.

He affirmed no Kuwaiti student in Egypt is infected with coronavirus, indicating the union is closely following all the procedures and developments related to the epidemiological situation in Egypt.

Stay

On the other hand, a number of Kuwaiti students expressed their desire to stay in Egypt during the mid-year vacation.

Musaed Al-Enezi, a student at Alexandria University, pointed out the winter season and calm atmosphere in Egypt motivated him to spend the mid-year vacation there, especially since the exams were postponed.

He said everything is available and he can enjoy this vacation in spite the spread of corona as there are many interesting activities in the city that he can engage in without the risk of infection.

Shaimaa, a student at Zagazig University, revealed that the difficulty of traveling back to Kuwait, particularly the need to undergo more tests, has prompted her to stay in Egypt during this vacation.

She told the daily that most of her classmates decided to return to Kuwait, but she and several others will remain in Egypt to fully prepare for the second semester.

She pointed out the epidemiological situation is the same throughout the world.

“The decision to stay or not depends on the goal. I decided to stay so I can study more and enjoy the beautiful atmosphere in Egypt,” she concluded.
