1.7mln people benefited from Saudi help in Ramadan

The project was implemented out of keenness of the Saudi government to support needy families in Muslim countries

RIYADH – Saudi Arabia, represented by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief), has implemented 15 projects of distributing Ramadan baskets and iftar meals among the needy people during the holy month of Ramadan, costing a total of more than $14 million. Around 1.7 million people from 13 Muslim countries have benefited from the projects, according to Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, adviser at the Royal Court and general supervisor of KSRelief.

“The project was implemented out of keenness of the Saudi government, under the leadership of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman, to support needy families in Muslim countries and to meet their urgent need for food supplies,” he said.

Dr. Al-Rabeeah said a total of 26,634 Ramadan baskets were distributed among 119,152 Syrian refugees in Jordan. Another 35,000 food baskets were distributed among 210,000 beneficiaries in Somalia. The Center distributed 13,725 food baskets to 62,430 beneficiaries in Sudan, 9,733 baskets in Palestine benefitting 34,040 people, and 20,000 food baskets to 120,000 beneficiaries in Afghanistan.

Dr. Al-Rabeeah said 29,810 food baskets were distributed among 119,240 poor people, including Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh. As many as 74,400 people of Chad benefited from 12,400 Ramadan baskets. KSRelief distributed 306,000 dry breakfast packets among 306,000 people and 16,067 food baskets among 96,402 people in Yemen. A total of 18,250 individuals from three Pakistani provinces have also benefited from 91,250 Ramadan baskets.

Dr. Al-Rabeeah said the Center distributed 32,000 food baskets in Syria, benefiting 192,00 people; 10,500 food baskets in Tajikistan benefiting 105,000; 7,300 Ramadan baskets to 43,800 people in Albania, while 1,050 meals were served in Lebanon and 27,714 food baskets for disturbed among 125,359 Syrian students in Lebanon.

He said KSRelief has also implemented the project titled “Clothing for your joy is our joy” to distribute clothing, tools of games and gifts on the occasion of Eid for the children in four Yemeni governorates of Aden, Hadramout, Mahara and Ma’arib, benefiting 7,590 children from poor families.

Marking the fourth anniversary celebrations of the establishment of KSRelief, Dr. Al-Rabeeah recently launched the electronic donation portal and the new version of the website of KSRelief.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Al-Rabeeah said that KSRelief was able to carry out 1,007 humanitarian and relief projects, costing a total of $ 3.281 billion, during the last four years.

As many as 44 countries have benefited from the projects that were implemented in cooperation with 142 international, regional and international partners.

Dr. Al-Rabeeah said that the KSRelief has set up several important portals such as the Saudi Humanitarian Aid Portal, the Volunteer Portal, and the Refugee Portal, and the Center is operating them in coordination with international partners so as to ensure their better governance.
