Abu Dhabi: The UAE’s Shawwal crescent moon-sighting committee will meet after Maghrib prayers on Saturday at the Judiciary Department in Abu Dhabi.

The resolution setting up the committee was issued on June 21 by Sultan Bin Saeed Al Badi, Minister of Justice.

The committee will be chaired by the minister, and its members include a number of officials. The resolution called on all Sharia Courts nationwide to detect the crescent moon and inform the committee.

Al Arabiya reported that the moon was sighted in Saudi Arabia on Saturday evening. Several other countries, including Jordan, Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei, also reported sighting the moon.
