Bahrain’s world class digital infrastructure and ways to further develop the digitalisation infrastructure in the region were discussed at a major event at the Expo 2020 Dubai.
The Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB), in partnership with the Economist, hosted the event titled “Looking Ahead: Pathways to a Digital Economy”.

The line-up of speakers included leading local and global experts, including Khalid Humaidan, Bahrain EDB’s Chief Executive; Shaikh Abdulla bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Chairman of Bahrain Telecommunications Company (Batelco); Abdulwahid Al-Janahi, CEO of Benefit Bahrain; Arianna Huffington, Founder and CEO of Thrive Global; Marcus East, Chief Digital Officer for T-Mobile, and key figures from Google Cloud, KPMG, and Mastercard, among others.

Participants explored the importance of regulation and data governance, the role of human capital, and the creation of new ecosystems around emerging technologies. Bahrain’s world class digital infrastructure and the availability of strong local digital talent, which was evidenced by the recent launch of the Citi Technology Hub, were also highlighted.

The event, which was a part of Bahrain Week at Expo2020, also provided a platform for leading companies to discuss technology-driven businesses and learn more about expanding their operations into the region’s $1.4 trillion market from Bahrain.
