KUWAIT CITY: In 2020, Kuwaitis will be able to leave and enter through what the security sources at the Ministry of Interior called the ‘e-gate’, reports Al-Qabas daily.

The sources said the ‘epassport reader’ which will be installed at the Kuwait International Airport, will allow citizens to leave and enter the country without having to deal with immigration staff without the need to stamp the passports.

The egate project has been approved by the General Department of Information Systems at the Ministry of Interior. Sources told the daily, the egate project is considered one of the most important biotechnology projects of the Ministry of Interior.

The e-passport reader will be connected to the e-gate and it will open and close when the passenger wants to leave or enter the country — all done within a few seconds. The sources said this electronic portal will be use for Kuwaitis only holding the electronic passport. The persons wanted by law will be automatically detected because the device will send signals to the securitymen. Moreover, the gate will refuse to open thus making it easy to for the security authorities to take into custody the ‘wanted’ person.
