BEIRUT: Caretaker Energy Minister Nada Boustani Monday extended the deadline for the submission of applications in the second licensing round for oil and gas exploration.

The date has been moved from Jan. 31, 2020 to April 30, 2020, a statement from the ministry said.

It said the Energy Ministry and the Lebanese Petroleum Administration had received requests from international oil firms to extend the deadline to allow these companies to complete their administrative and technical preparations stipulated in the book of tenders.

Boustani clarified that this would not affect drilling in Block 4 and that Lebanon was waiting for the return of a drillship named the Tungsten Explorer provided by the U.S.-based contractor Vantage Drilling.
