Amazon and Souq has launched Amazon.sa in Saudi Arabia to replace Souq.com, more than one year after Amazon rebranded Souq to Amazon.ae in the UAE.

As part of the rebranding process, Souq Saudi is now redirecting all the users to Amazon.sa.

"The new store brings together the best of Souq's local know-how and Amazon's global retailing experience. The store’s selection ranges from local products to those from all over the world, including Amazon US," according to a statement on the homepage of Amazon.sa.

Customers can start shopping in Amazon.sa using their Souq credentials. It will provide free next day delivery for orders above 200 Saudi riyals ($53.31).

Ronaldo Mouchawar, a Syria entrepreneur launched Souq in 2005 as an auction website linked to Maktoob.com, which was later bought by Yahoo. Amazon had acquired Souq for $580 million in March 2017. The e-commerce retailer is the region’s first unicorn.

“Today marks a key milestone … with Amazon.sa, we want to provide what customers have been asking us for the ability to shop a broader selection of both local products and international goods from Amazon,” The National quoted Ronaldo Mouchawar, vice president of Amazon in Middle East and North Africa as saying.

“Partnering closely with our local and global sellers, we will continue to delight customers in Saudi Arabia by growing our product range while ensuring great prices, fast delivery and a convenient and trusted shopping experience," he added.

According to the website, Souq Saudi's team in the kingdom has grown to more than 1,400 in the last few years.
