Iraq has allocated four trillion Iraqi dinars ($2.7 billion) for provincial development projects in its 2021-22 budget, a planning ministry spokesperson said.

Abdul Zahra Al-Hindawi told Zawya Projects that the Ministry has asked the local governments to give priority to the investment and community services projects during a meeting chaired by the Planning Minister Khaled Battal Al-Najm with the governors and Higher Coordination Committee for the provinces.

Al-Hindawi said the Minister underlined the greater flexibility given to governors in terms of fund allocation and spending, adding that “an important measure would be announced soon to address the impact of fluctuations of Iraqi dinar exchange rate on contractors.”

Al-Hindawi said the minister also called upon the governors to focus on projects that have higher completion rates, stressing that the Ministry will support them fully in implementing their projects.
