The main construction contract award for Karwa Motors' bus manufacturing plant in Duqm has been delayed, according to a source close to the project.
"The contract tender was not cancelled or re-issued," the source told Thomson Reuters Projects while confirming that the contract is yet to be awarded.
The source didn't disclose the reasons for the delay and declined to disclose new timelines for the contract award.
In April 2019, Thomson Reuters Projects had reported the contract award for the $90 million first phase of the bus production plant was pushed back twice from September 2018 to November 2018 and then to April 2019.
The facility is expected to start production in the second quarter of 2020, according to Karwa Motors' website
Karwa Motors is a joint venture owned 70 percent by Mowasalat Qatar and 30 percent by Oman Investment Fund (OIF).
