Al Ain : A team of Translation Studies students in the Department of Languages and Literature at UAEU cooperated with the Intercultural School of Interpreting and Translation (ISIT) in Paris to translate a documentary film on space exploration. The 35-minute documentary was produced by Virgil Novarina under the title "The internal telescope, a space story by d'Eduardo Kac".
On this occasion, Dr. Moza Obaid Al Tenaijy, Assistant Professor, Translation Studies Program, Head of the Languages and Literature Department, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, UAEU, said, "We are glad that UAEU's students' efforts have paid off in their collaboration with the Intercultural School of Interpreting and Translation (ISIT) in France. This emphasizes the success of the university's strategy to graduate qualified students supporting the work market with specialized cadres, promoting the country's advancement, and keeping pace with the wise leadership's efforts to extend communication bridges with the people of the world regardless of their cultures and languages".
The UAEU students Randah Daloo, Maha Kadi, Alhanoof Almazrouei, Mennat Abo El Wafa, Bassant Hamed, and Sherina Alnuaimi participated in translating the film under the supervision and guidance of the Translation Studies Program academics; Dr. Ferhat Mameri and Dr. Raja Lahiani.
The film documentary aims at providing the audience with information regarding the internal telescope, the way it's manufactured, and how it operates. It also explains the relationship between the liberal arts and sciences in the field of space exploration. In addition, it talks about the technical experiments conducted on the international space station.
The UAEU students collaborated with a student team from the Intercultural School of Interpreting and Translation (ISIT) in France, sharing the tasks which included: transcription, translating, and subtitling. The work required the teams to organize several meetings to exchange experiences, discuss the work process, and handle some difficulties. This activity has allowed the students to gain some experience in the field of translation and to appreciate collaboration and group work.
