Sharjah: The King Hussein Cancer Foundation and Center received on Wednesday the 2012 Sharjah Award for Voluntary Work. Launched by Emiri decree by His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the award is the first of its kind in the United Arab Emirates and the Arab world which recognizes humanitarian and voluntary work within all segments of society. The award also honors individuals and organizations that are devoted to humanitarian issues and have served their communities in ways that leave a positive and lasting impact.
HRH Princess Dina Mired, Director General of the King Hussein Cancer Foundation, received the award on behalf of the King Hussein Cancer Foundation and Center during a special ceremony held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, ruler of Sharjah.
Princess Dina expressed her thanks to the organizers of the award for their important role in supporting humanitarian and volunteer efforts in various fields, adding "I received the Sharjah Award on behalf of our wonderful institutions, the King Hussein Cancer Foundation and Center, which are dedicated to treating cancer patients not only with the best of cancer care but also with humanity, love and support."
"We are also thankful to HH Sheikh Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, who established this important award which appreciates and encourages institutions that work for a worthy cause such as ours to continue their humanitarian work and provides their services to as many people in need as possible."
During their visit, Princess Dina Mired and a deleation from the King Hussein Cancer Foundation visited Sharjah blood transfusion and research center of the ministry of health which is considered one of the best centers in the Middle East and a state of the art facility for blood donations. The visit was intended to discuss cooperation between the Foundation and Sharjah blood transfusion and research center.
