- Close to 500,000 EGP were raised for Misr El Kheir across the region.
- The various campaigns were initiated through strategic regional and local partnerships with charitable entities.
Cairo, Egypt: talabat, the region’s leading food delivery and q-commerce platform, dedicated its app towards giving back during Ramadan. After tying up with over 15 charities across the markets it operates in, talabat customers were able to give back to a number of different causes through the app. With the promise of being #AlwaysThere for those in need, talabat facilitated the donation of 40,556 meals during the first three weeks of the month of Ramadan to the World Food Programme.Locally, talabat partnered with Misr El Kheir Foundation (MEK) to create specially curated Ramadan menus, through which customers could donate Iftar meals and Ramadan boxes of food supplies to help offer assistance to those in need.
Misr El Kheir is considered one of the biggest NGOs that supports and provides services to communities most in need in Egypt. Starting this Ramadan, MEK is listed on the talabat app where users can log in and donate to its various Ramadan initiatives including: Iftar Sa’em, EL Kheir Box, Iftar Card, and Family support Bundle. Throughout the month, our users donated close to 500k EGP, equivalent to 10,666 meals through this initiative.
Egypt-based customers also took part in a region-wide campaign this month, simply by ordering their favourite meals for Iftar. In partnership with the World Food Programme, for every customer who placed an order during iftar hours on Sundays, talabat donated the value of a meal to feed someone who needs it in order to help fight hunger across the Middle East in areas such as Yemen and Syria and to India to help the communities affected by the pandemic. In fact, talabat donated 17,198 meals to the WFP as part of the #IftarforIndia initiative the last Sunday of the Holy Month to help communities affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in India.
“As a Tech company, we always aim to make people's lives better and easier through our platform. Hence, the idea of listing non-governmental organizations (NGOs) on the platform, which gives the opportunity for the more than 3 million Egyptians who downloaded our App to donate online and support our community. And kicking this off with a big NGO like MEK is a great success and we are looking forward to creating a positive change and more initiatives in the near future” Added Hadeer Shalaby, Managing Director of talabat Egypt.
Consumers can now download talabat on the iOS App Store or Google Play Store to donate to a range of causes.
